Create a Community

Creating a community on Velora is a guided 4-step process that starts with an engaging intro screen. This guide covers the first step — understanding the flow and getting started.

Home > Communities > + (Create) button

  1. Open the Communities List.
  2. Tap the + floating action button.
  3. If you are not signed in, you will be prompted to sign in first.
  4. The Create Community Intro screen loads with animated visuals.

Creating a community follows this sequence:

StepScreenWhat You Do
Step 1Category SelectionChoose what type of community you are creating
Step 2Select CategoryPick the specific category from the directory
Step 3Basic InfoEnter name, description, and upload a cover image
Step 4Community SettingsConfigure visibility, permissions, and timeline

After Step 4, you review and submit to create the community.

The intro screen is designed to inspire and guide you. It features:

A central community icon surrounded by orbiting icons representing different community activities:

  • Inner orbit: Stars, hearts, chat bubbles, people — representing connection
  • Outer orbit: Music, camera, gaming, ideas, art, rockets — representing activities

The icons rotate smoothly, creating a dynamic visual that communicates the energy of a thriving community.

A large, animated headline:

“Build Your Community”

The title slides in with a smooth entrance animation.

A prominent call-to-action button that launches the category selection step.

The intro screen adapts to your device:

DeviceLayout Adjustments
Phone (under 600dp)Compact orbit hub, 38pt title, stacked layout
Tablet (600-1024dp)Medium orbit hub, 50pt title
Laptop/Desktop (over 1024dp)Large orbit hub, 58pt title, wider content area (720dp max)

  1. Review the animated intro screen.
  2. Tap Get Started (or the equivalent CTA button).
  3. You are taken to the Category Selection screen where you choose the type of community.
  4. Continue through each step, filling in details as you go.

If you navigate back (press the back button or swipe) during any step of the creation flow, the form data is preserved until you complete or explicitly cancel the flow. The form state resets when you leave the intro screen entirely.

The intro screen animation is laggy. On older devices, the orbiting animation may stutter. The functionality is not affected — tap Get Started to proceed even if the animation is not smooth.

I was prompted to sign in but lost my progress. The sign-in redirect preserves your intent to create a community. After signing in, you are automatically redirected to the create flow.

I cannot find the + button on the Communities List. Scroll down if the button is hidden behind content. The floating action button should be visible in the bottom-right corner on all screen sizes.
