Announcements: Broadcast Updates and Follow the Feed

Section titled “Announcements: Broadcast Updates and Follow the Feed”

Post official updates that reach everyone in your event or community, and read, search, and reply to the updates you receive.

  • To post an announcement, you need to be the owner or an admin of the event or community. If you have a different role, you will see the feed but not the option to post.
  • To read announcements, you only need to be a member of the community or a participant in the event. Community members, attendees, crew, and bouncers all receive them.
  • Make sure you are working in the right event or community before you post. An announcement goes to the space you currently have open, and there is no way to move it afterwards.
  • Every event and community has its own announcements area from the moment it is created, so you do not need to set one up. It appears in the feed with the event or community name under it even before anything has been posted.
  1. Open the announcements feed. In the chat area of your event or community, switch to announcements. At the top you will see a card naming the space you are posting to, followed by every announcement in reverse order, newest first. Each entry shows its title, a preview of the message, and when it was posted: a time for today, a weekday for the past week, and a date for anything older. Use the search box to filter by any word in a title or body, which is the fastest way to find an older update.

  2. Write and send the announcement. Choose Post on the announcements card. Give the announcement a title and write the message. Send stays inactive until both the title and the body have text, so if it looks unavailable, check that neither field is empty. Once you send it, you get a confirmation and return to the feed with the new announcement at the top. Everyone in the space can see it immediately: there is no draft state and no way to unsend, so read it over before sending.

  3. Open an announcement to see the discussion. Tapping an entry opens the full message along with its reactions and its replies. Replies you post are public and visible to the whole space. You can also send your response privately to whoever wrote the announcement, which arrives as an ordinary direct message that no other member sees. Because a private message going to the wrong place is hard to undo, you are asked to confirm before it sends, and the confirmation names the person who will receive it. New replies from other members appear while you have the announcement open, so you do not need to leave and come back.

I want to schedule an announcement for later. Scheduling is not available. An announcement is delivered the moment you send it, so if timing matters, write it at the time you want it to go out.

I need to attach a photo, file, or video. Announcements are title-and-text only. To share an image or a document alongside an update, post it in a regular channel and use the announcement to point members there.

Who has read my announcement? Opening an announcement marks it as read for that member, which clears their unread badge and adds to the read count on the announcement. The count tells you how many people have opened it, not which individuals, and it only rises when someone opens the full announcement: scrolling past it in the feed does not count.

My private reply would not send. If you are told that private replies are not available yet, that feature has not been enabled for your app version. Post a public reply instead, or start a direct message with the author from the chat area.

A reply failed to send. You will see an error rather than a silent failure. Your text stays in the box, so try sending it again.

The feed looks empty. In a brand new event or community, nothing has been posted yet. The announcements card still appears at the top, so you can post the first update straight from there.
