QR Scanner - Ticket Check-in
QR Scanner - Ticket Check-in
Section titled “QR Scanner - Ticket Check-in”The QR Scanner is your gate management tool. Point your phone’s camera at an attendee’s ticket QR code and Velora instantly checks whether it is genuine and valid for this activity — even when you are offline. It detects duplicates, tracks scan counts, and syncs everything to the cloud when connectivity is restored.
How to Get There
Section titled “How to Get There”Event Dashboard > QR Scanner (or via Scan Activity Selection)
- Open your Event Dashboard.
- Tap QR Scanner or the scan icon.
- If your event has multiple activities happening today, you first see the Scan Activity Selection screen to choose which activity you are scanning for.
- The camera opens and you are ready to scan.
How Scanning Works
Section titled “How Scanning Works”Camera View
Section titled “Camera View”The scanner uses your device’s camera to detect QR codes in real time. When a valid code is detected:
- A sound plays confirming the scan
- The ticket information is displayed (ticket ID, attendee name, activity)
- The scan result shows green for valid or red for invalid
- The scan is recorded locally and queued for server sync
Validation Process
Section titled “Validation Process”Every ticket QR code carries tamper-proofing that Velora issues when the ticket is created. The scanner:
- Reads the QR code data
- Confirms the ticket is genuine and was issued for this event
- Checks if the ticket is valid for the current activity
- Detects duplicates (already-scanned tickets)
- Records the scan with timestamp, location, and device ID
Validation Checks
Section titled “Validation Checks”The scanner performs these checks on every scan:
| Check | What It Catches |
|---|---|
| Signature verification | Forged or tampered QR codes |
| Ticket validity | Expired or cancelled tickets |
| Activity match | Tickets for a different activity |
| Activity timing | Scanning before activity starts or after it ends |
| Duplicate detection | Already-scanned tickets (prevents re-entry) |
| Scan limit | Tickets that have exceeded their allowed scan count |
Error Messages
Section titled “Error Messages”| Error | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Invalid signature | The QR code was tampered with or is from a different event |
| Ticket not found | The ticket ID does not exist in the system |
| Already scanned | This ticket was already used for entry |
| Activity not allowed | The ticket is not valid for this particular activity |
| Activity not started | You are scanning before the scheduled start time |
| Activity ended | The activity’s time window has closed |
| Scan limit reached | The ticket has been scanned the maximum allowed times |
Key Features
Section titled “Key Features”Works With Older and Reissued Tickets
Section titled “Works With Older and Reissued Tickets”Tickets keep working even if they were issued weeks apart, or reissued partway through your event. The scanner sorts this out automatically, with nothing for you to configure.
Offline-First Architecture
Section titled “Offline-First Architecture”- The scanner caches the activities hash map locally for offline ticket validation
- Scans are stored in a local database (Isar)
- Background sync pushes records to the server when online
- You can trigger manual sync from the scan history screen
Device Scanner ID
Section titled “Device Scanner ID”Each device gets a persistent, unique scanner ID. This helps you identify which device performed each scan — useful when multiple volunteers are scanning at different gates.
Scanner Controls
Section titled “Scanner Controls”The scanner screen includes controls for:
| Control | Action |
|---|---|
| Torch | Toggle flashlight for low-light conditions |
| Camera flip | Switch between front and rear cameras |
| Ticket Enquiry | Look up a ticket manually by ID |
| History | View scan history and sync status |
