Finding People on Velora and Starting a Chat

Section titled “Finding People on Velora and Starting a Chat”

Search across Velora by name, phone number, or email to message anyone on the platform - a caterer you met at a wedding expo, a co-organizer for your college fest, or a guest who booked with a different number.

How to get there: Chat > New Chat

  1. Open Chat from the bottom navigation.
  2. Tap New Chat.
  3. Type at least two characters of a name, a phone number, or an email address into the search bar at the top.
  4. Wait a moment - results appear on their own as you type.
  5. Scroll the list to find the right person.

Each result shows a profile photo, a name, and a second line underneath. That second line is either how you are connected (a shared event or community) or the person’s email address. A green dot on the photo means they are online right now.

  1. Tap the person’s row in the results, or tap the chat icon on the right.
  2. The conversation opens straight away, with their name in the header.
  3. Type your first message and send it.

Tap a profile photo in the results to see it larger before you commit to messaging. Handy when you remember a face from a site visit but not a name.

  • Chat Basics - How direct messages, groups, and workspaces fit together.
  • Message Requests - Accepting or declining messages from people you do not know.
  • Group Chats - Coordinating several vendors or volunteers in one thread.
  • Workspaces - Keeping event and community conversations separate.
  • Privacy Settings - Controlling who can find and message you.
  • Manage Vendors - Turning a new contact into a tracked vendor.
  • Event Team Roles - Giving co-organizers the right access.

“No people found” - The person may not be on Velora, or may have registered with a different number or email. Try their name alone, then try their alternate email. Skip spaces and dashes in phone numbers.

Nothing happens when you type - You need at least two characters before search runs. A single letter shows only the intro screen.

“This member is not accepting message requests” - Their privacy settings block new conversations from people they do not share an event with. Add them to an event or community first, or reach them by phone.

“Could not start chat” or “Unable to message this user” - Usually a brief network problem. Check your connection and tap the person again.

The spinner keeps going and no results arrive - Your connection likely dropped mid-search. Clear the search bar, then retype your query to run it again.

Results look stale after you edit your search - Pause for a second after typing. Velora waits until you stop before running the search, so very fast typing can feel like a delay.
