Select Category

When you create a new community in Velora Events, your first step is to select a category that best describes the community’s purpose. This helps organize your community, makes it discoverable to members, and ensures you’re grouped with similar communities.

How to get there: Community Creation Flow > Select Category

This is Step 1 of 4 in the community creation process.

  1. Review the available categories displayed as colorful cards on your screen. Each card shows an icon and the category name.

  2. Search for a specific category (optional):

    • Tap the Search categories field at the top
    • Type the category name or keywords (e.g., “wedding”, “Diwali”, “corporate”)
    • Results filter instantly as you type
  3. Tap the category card that matches your community’s purpose. The card highlights with a purple border and displays a checkmark when selected.

  4. Toggle selection if needed:

    • Tapping the same category again deselects it
    • You can only select one category at a time
  5. Tap the Next button at the bottom to proceed to Step 2 (selecting tags). The Next button activates only after you’ve selected a category.

If you see an error message “Failed to load categories”:

  1. Check your internet connection: make sure you have active data or WiFi
  2. Tap the Retry button to reload the categories
  3. Close and reopen the app if the error persists

“Loading categories…” spinner won’t disappear Your app may be stuck. Force-close Velora Events completely (swipe it away from recents), wait 5 seconds, and reopen it. If this continues, uninstall and reinstall the app.

Category I want isn’t showing up Search using different keywords. Categories have multiple names or synonyms. If truly missing, it may not be active yet - contact your Velora support team to suggest a new category.

Can’t proceed to the next step You must select exactly one category. Ensure the card shows a purple checkmark before tapping Next.
