Configure Your Community Settings

This is the final setup screen where you customize how your community operates—privacy level, when it launches, special permissions, and a custom URL handle. Think of it as locking in the ground rules for your creative space.

Context

You’re on Step 4 of 4 in the community creation flow. Your basic details (name, description, category) are already saved. This screen controls visibility, member permissions, and access rules.

Set Your Community’s Visibility

How to get there: Community Setup > Community Settings > Visibility section

How public or private do you want your space to be? Velora gives you three options:

1. Tap Public if you want anyone to discover and join your community without approval. Ideal for open creative hubs or learning groups.
2. Tap Private to hide your community from searches. Only people you directly invite can see and join. Perfect for exclusive workshops or alumni networks.
3. Tap Protected for a middle ground—your community shows up in search, but new members need your approval to join and view content.

The description below each option updates automatically so you know exactly what you’re choosing.

Event Organizer Insight

For wedding planning communities or corporate team spaces, Private keeps things controlled. For Diwali festival coordination or college fest communities, Public brings in all the enthusiastic volunteers you need.

Schedule Your Community’s Start Date

How to get there: Community Settings > Timeline section

1. Tap the Today button with the calendar icon
2. Use the date picker to select when members can begin joining
3. The default is today, but you can schedule up to 365 days in advance

This is useful when you’re setting everything up weeks before launch—members can join the community on your chosen date automatically.

Next Best Action

After scheduling your start date:

• For creator communities: Set up onboarding questions to welcome new members
• For event-focused communities: Invite core team members to start planning

Create a Custom Community Handle

How to get there: Community Settings > Community Handle section

A handle is your community’s short, memorable URL—like creative-hub-2026 instead of a long random link.

1. Tap the Community Handle text field
2. Type your preferred handle (4–50 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens, or underscores only)
3. Wait a moment—Velora automatically checks if it’s available
4. When you see a ✓ icon, the handle is yours

If you see a ✗ and “This URL is already taken,” try a variation.

Set an expiration date (required if you create a handle):

1. Tap the Set URL expiration date row
2. Choose when this handle should stop working (up to 5 years from now)
3. You can clear this choice anytime by tapping the ✕

Important

If you create a custom handle, setting an expiration date is mandatory. This protects against abandoned URLs cluttering the platform. Plan ahead if you want a long-term URL.

Manage Member Permissions

How to get there: Community Settings > Permissions section

Control what members can do in your space by toggling these four switches:

1. Allow Posting — Members can create posts and discussions. Turn off if you want a read-only info hub.
2. Document Sharing — Members can upload and share files (PDFs, images, etc.). Great for collaborative projects.
3. Allow Sub-Communities — Members can create sub-groups within your main community. Useful for large communities with multiple interest areas (e.g., a design community with sub-groups for UI, branding, illustration).
4. Lock Content — Once enabled, published posts can’t be edited or deleted. Ensures documentation stays permanent.

Tap any toggle to switch it on or off. The change happens instantly.

Wedding & Event Planning Tip

For a wedding planning community, enable Document Sharing so vendors can upload invoices and mood boards. For a corporate event community, enable Lock Content to maintain an audit trail of decisions made.

Preview & Move Forward

How to get there: Bottom of Community Settings screen

1. Review all your settings above
2. Tap Preview (for main communities) or Add Onboarding Questions (for sub-communities)

If any required field is incomplete, you’ll see an error—fix it and try again.

Next Best Action

After completing settings:

• Creating a main community: Review your community details before going live
• Creating a sub-community: Design onboarding questions to welcome your niche audience

Troubleshooting

“This URL is already taken” — Someone else claimed this handle. Try adding a year, location, or number to make it unique (e.g., creative-hub-delhi-2026).

Handle validation error (e.g., “Cannot start with a number”) — Handles must start with a lowercase letter and use only letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores. Rename and try again.

“Set URL expiration date” appears in red — You’ve created a handle but haven’t set when it expires. Tap the row and pick a date (required to proceed).

Permissions keep resetting — Make sure you’re connected to the internet. If toggles flip back, try again in a moment.

Can’t proceed to preview — Check that the Community Handle field passes validation (green ✓ icon) if you filled it in. Leave it blank if you’d prefer no custom URL.
