Exploring a Community

This screen shows you detailed information about a community - its size, focus areas, history, and how to join. Use it to decide whether a community is right for you before committing.

What You’ll See

A community preview includes the cover image, logo, member count, events hosted, description, location, and topics. The layout helps you quickly assess if this community matches your interests.

View Community Details

How to get there: Community discovery or shared link > Community name

When you open a community preview, you see:

1. Tap the back arrow at the top left to return to the previous screen
2. Scroll down to read the full community description under About
3. Review the stats - members and hosted events - to gauge community activity
4. Check the location to confirm it matches where you want to attend events
5. Browse the topics listed at the bottom to see what the community focuses on

Community Health Signals

Active communities typically show:

• High member count (100+ members indicates established groups)
• Regular events (at least a few events per month)
• Clear description (detailed about goals and who they serve)
• Relevant topics (matches your interests and profession)

For Indian events communities, check if they host events during festival seasons (Diwali, Holi) or major corporate/college calendars.

Join or Request to Join

How to get there: Community preview > Bottom button

The button at the bottom of the screen changes based on the community’s membership model:

For open communities:

1. Tap Join Community to instantly become a member
2. You’ll see a confirmation, and the button changes to Joined

For communities requiring approval:

1. Tap Request to Join to submit a membership request
2. The button changes to Request Pending
3. A community moderator will review and approve your request (usually within 24 hours)

For invite-only communities:

1. Tap Request Invitation to express interest
2. Community organizers will receive your request and may invite you
3. You’ll be notified when a decision is made

Not Signed In?

If you’re not logged into Velora, the button shows Sign in to join this community. Tap it to sign in first, then you can join immediately after.

Next Best Action

Once you’ve joined a community:

• Browse upcoming events hosted by that community
• Introduce yourself in community discussions (if available)
• Mark events as interested to get reminders about events you want to attend

Share a Community

How to get there: Community preview > Share icon (top right)

1. Tap the share icon (paper plane or share symbol) in the top right
2. A confirmation message appears that share functionality is coming soon

Why Share?

Sharing communities helps:

• Invite friends to groups you love
• Grow your professional network (especially for industry meetups)
• Build attendance for community events by spreading the word

Understand Community Types

Communities are labeled with a type that explains their structure:

Type	What It Means	Join Process
Public	Open to anyone; transparent membership	Join directly
Request-Based	Membership screened by organizers	Submit request; wait for approval
Invite-Only	By invitation from organizers	Request and wait to be invited

For Wedding & Event Organizers

Wedding planning communities (especially in metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore) are often request-based to maintain quality discussions. Corporate communities are usually public. College fest groups are often invite-only to keep discussions focused on current students and members.

Troubleshooting

“Request Pending” button won’t change: The community moderator is reviewing your request. This can take 24–48 hours, especially for high-volume communities. Check back tomorrow or enable notifications for updates.

“Sign in to join” appears even though I’m logged in: Try signing out and signing back in, or force-close and reopen the app. If the issue persists, contact support.

I can’t find the community I’m looking for: Try searching by community name or topic in the discovery section. Not all communities are indexed if they’re very new or private.

Share button shows “coming soon”: This feature is in development. For now, copy the community link from your browser and send it manually to friends.
