Setting Up Your Community’s Basic Information

Create your community by filling in essential details like its name, description, and a visual identity. This is Step 3 of 4 in the community creation process - you’re almost there!

What You’re Doing Here

Think of this as your community’s “first impression.” A clear name, compelling description, and eye-catching image help members understand what your community is about and whether they want to join.

Add a Community Image

Give your community a face. A good image makes it instantly recognizable in search results and member feeds.

How to get there: Community Creation > Basic Info

1. Tap the image upload box labeled Upload Community Image
2. Select a photo from your device (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, or HEIC formats work)
3. Wait for the image to upload - you’ll see a blue loading message
4. Once successful, a green checkmark confirms the upload

If you need to change the image, tap the X button in the top-right corner of the uploaded image and select a new one.

Image Best Practices

• Use a square or landscape image (at least 500×500 pixels) for best results
• Choose something bright and recognizable - a logo, group photo, or thematic image
• For wedding communities: a decorated venue or couple photo works great
• For hobby groups (hiking, cooking, book clubs): action shots or themed imagery
• Avoid text-heavy images - they don’t scale well on mobile

Pro tip: Test how your image looks at small sizes (like in a list) before confirming.

Enter Your Community Name

Give your community a clear, memorable name that tells people what it’s about.

1. Tap the Community Name field
2. Type your community’s name (up to 30 characters)
3. You’ll see a character counter showing how many letters you’ve used

Example names:

• “Bangalore Hiking Crew”
• “Wedding Planning 2025”
• “Tech Founders Network”
• “Diwali Celebration Planning”

Keep It Specific

Avoid generic names like “Group” or “Community.” Names like “Delhi Wedding Planners” or “Startup Founders - Mumbai” help members find you and understand your purpose instantly.

Add a Description (Optional)

Help people understand your community’s purpose, who it’s for, and what members can expect.

1. Tap the Description field
2. Type details about your community (there’s no character limit)
3. Example: “A space for couples planning weddings in Bangalore. Share vendors, budgets, ideas, and timelines. Open to all religions and styles.”

Writing a Great Description

• First line: State your community’s core purpose clearly
• Second line: Describe who it’s for (e.g., “For first-time parents in Delhi,” “Career-switchers in tech”)
• Third line: Mention what members will get out of joining (e.g., “Share resources, ask questions, celebrate milestones together”)

This takes 30 seconds but dramatically increases engagement.

Review & Continue

Once you’ve filled in the Community Name (the only required field), the Next button at the bottom turns purple and becomes active.

After setting up basic info, you’ll configure:

• Privacy settings (private vs. public community)
• Member approval rules (auto-join vs. manual approval)
• Posting permissions (who can post, who can comment)

Your Progress Is Saved

When you tap Next, all the information you’ve entered (name, description, image) is automatically saved. You won’t lose it if you navigate away.

Troubleshooting

“Community name is required”: You’ve left the Community Name field empty. Tap the field and type at least one character. The field must have text for the Next button to work.

“Community name must be 30 characters or less”: You’ve typed more than 30 characters. Delete extra text until the counter shows 30 or fewer.

“Failed to upload image”: Your internet connection dropped during upload, or the file is too large (keep images under 10 MB). Check your connection and try again. Tap Retry in the error message to re-upload.

Image won’t load after I select it: The file format may not be supported. Use JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, or HEIC. If the problem persists, try a different image file.

The back arrow closes the form: Tapping the back arrow in the top-left corner takes you back to the previous step. Your data is saved, so you can return and continue anytime.
